Inspiration for Mother Earth Devotional Songs
Story behind Mother Earth songs composed and sung by Mrs Kamala Vedanthan, in the words of Dr. P.K. Vedanthan
During the summer of 2020 when I was attending the wedding of the daughter of one of my classmate in Alberta, Canada, I had the pleasure of discussing in detail regarding a very unique and interesting project about building a monument to honor ‘Mother Earth’ near the town of Mandya, about 30 miles from my hometown of Mysuru, Karnataka, India. The main architect and founder of this project is Dr. Hal Murthy, a successful family physician in Miami, Florida, USA, as well as my close friend and classmate at Mysore Medical College. During the discussion, one of the main requests of Dr. Murthy was to have a collection of songs to honor and pray to Mother Earth. Naturally, that led to a discussion with my wife Mrs. Kamala. Kamala and myself were briefed via a zoom conference with Dr. Murthy regarding this commemorative project. This led Kamala to think and compose a few songs on the subject. Surprisingly, this initial experience of composing a ‘few’ songs on Mother Earth evolved into a continuous flow of ideas, wordings and melodies which enabled Kamala to compose and sing almost 20 songs on our wondrous Earth.
During this period of the Covid pandemic, we were visiting Mysuru, India for a few weeks in the month of April 2021. We took this opportunity to record these songs in a professional music studio operated by Sri Ganesh Bhat. Mr. Bhat did a wonderful job throughout a very short period to get all the songs recorded, and you are now enjoying the fruits of this unusual experience outlined above. Ms. Ranjani Vedanthan has instilled ‘special effects’ to the melody of these songs and fed them into YouTube to reach beings all over the globe. We sincerely hope that this set of songs composed by the blessings of Mother Earth will honor Her as per the dreams and wishes of Murthy’s visions.
